The 1st Murrumbateman Scout Group have been committed to the development of the children within the Murrumbateman Community for almost 20 years.

Scouts is the most successful and biggest youth group within Australia. It is voluntarily supported by the parents of young girls and boys (aged 11 - 15 years) who live in Murrumbateman.

The aim of the Cub group is to teach children social and life skills outside of the school and home environment. As part of this development program we attempt to hold 5-6 camps per year. We endeavour to reinforce and building confidence, independence, life and learning skills in a fun environment.

The Murrumbateman Scout Program offers a flexible range of age-specific activities with an emphasis on useful skills, service to others, leadership and responsibility.

Weekly meetings are held which support the development of a variety of skill levels but always with a focus on team building. We play games and have fun within a supportive environment. There are badges to be earned and skills to be learnt which will stay with a Scout for life. Some of these are:

  • Hiking, camping and navigation
  • Safety skills, recognising dangers within our environment
  • First aid training
  • Canoeing, how to be safe around beaches, rivers and lakes
  • Tying kots and cords
  • Leadership and team building

Over the last 3 years the Group has grown rapidly in number, and strong growth is predicted to continue for the foreseeable future.

Currently the Group has Joey, Cub and Scout sections with membership totalling about 40 people; there are also plans to start a Venturer Unit in late 2009.
