Welcome to the Murrumbateman Scouts
The 1st Murrumbateman Scout Group has been committed to the development of young people within the Murrumbateman Community for in excess of 20 years.
Scouts is the most successful and biggest youth group within Australia and the world. In Murrumbateman our Scout Group caters for young people, male and female, between the ages of 6 and 18 years. Currently the Group has approximately 50 members including our leaders - but there is room for more members.
Each "section" of the Scout Group caters for different age groups. The Murrumbateman Group currently operates Joey, Cub, Scout, and Venturer sections.
The aim of Scouting is to teach young people social and life skills outside of the school and home environment. The structured program is tailored to the various age groups and is delivered by dedicated and formally trained adult leaders. The emphasis is on: learning useful skills, service to others, community mindedness, leadership and responsibility, and having fun. There is typically a range of outdoor adventurous activities and camps included in the program.
Weekly meetings are held which support the development of a variety of skill levels but always with a focus on team building within a fun and caring environment. Each section has an award achievement scheme - there are badges to be earned and skills to be learnt which will stay with a Scout for life. Some of these life-skills include:
-
Hiking, camping and navigation
-
Safety and survival skills
-
First aid training
-
Kayaking and other water activities
-
Bushcraft and knots
-
Leadership and team building
-
Cooking
The 1st Murrumbateman Scout Group is the Gold Quality Scouting Award Winner for 2009 and 2010.
